Weight guide
What dart weight should I use?
Dart weight changes how your throw feels. Lighter darts react quicker, heavier darts can feel more stable, but the right choice depends on your release, board type and how much control you already have.
Direct answer
Most players should test 24g first for steel tip. Choose 22g if you throw fast or lightly, and 26g if your throw is calm and you want more stability.
Not sure which dart fits your throw?
Take the free selector first. It filters by board type, grip, weight, throw style and budget before you buy.

Search 24g darts on AmazonWhen 22g makes sense
Choose 22g if you have a quick throw, a light release or you feel like heavier darts drop too early. The tradeoff is that small mistakes can show up faster.
Why 24g is the safe test weight
24g gives many players a stable but manageable feel. It is heavy enough to guide the dart, but not so heavy that you need to force the throw.
When to try 26g
Try 26g if your throw is calm, your release is consistent and lighter darts feel nervous. If you start pushing the dart, go back down in weight.
Do not choose weight alone
Two 24g darts can feel completely different because of grip, balance and barrel shape. Use weight as a starting point, then compare how the dart leaves your hand.
Frequently asked questions
Is 24g a good dart weight?
Yes. For many steel tip players, 24g is the safest first weight to test because it sits between speed and stability.
Are heavier darts better?
Not always. Heavier darts can feel stable, but they can also make your release slower or force you to push the dart.
What weight do soft tip darts use?
Soft tip darts are usually lighter than steel tip darts because electronic boards use plastic tips and different board limits.
